Ratings 10/12/02
What a great championship game! In a bowl season that was mostly blowouts, the last game was the best. So, the BCS got a controversy-free matchup and a great game (with just enough controversy) to boot. As far as I know, there is no strong feeling that the system needs to be changed this time.
The computer enjoyed Southern Cal winning easily. (Maybe they really are good!) In spite of a generally poor performance by the Pac 10, the Trojans remain a solid choice as the computer's number one. Otherwise, the computer ratings look a lot like the official polls.
Several conferences did much better than expected, notably the Big 10 and the ACC. The non-Bowden part of the ACC did quite well. It seems that the conference should "Gro" its coaching ranks. In general, the Big 10 and ACC teams are up from the last rankings and the Pac 10 teams are down.
I hope you enjoyed this year's By the Numbers. I especially hope that
you used the ratings to do a better job picking bowl winners than I
did. See you next year!
